Sandangkamuka — A Fever Dream on Love, Skin, and the Earth Beneath It
Kalacemeti Pictures
2021 — Dieng, Wonosobo, Indonesia.
Sandangkamuka explores love as a metaphysical skin — not something we wear, but something that wears us. Through intuitive visual poetry and sonic hallucination, the film portrays desire not as romance, but as a sacred disorientation. The landscape breathes, the body aches, and language fails — leaving only sensation, contradiction, and sweat-soaked silence.

I wrote, directed, shot, edited, scored, and performed in this experimental short. From concept to execution, the entire film was built through intuitive process — guided not by narrative convention, but by emotional texture and visual instinct.
Built on raw feeling rather than structure, the film embraces Van Gogh’s philosophy: express first, justify never. Shot handheld with unpredictable rhythm, colors clash and blur like memory fragments. Sound is composed from field samples, whispered breath, ambient drones, and low-frequency pulses — a sensorial envelope to wrap the viewer inside the fever.
The central figure is a gendruwo — not in the folkloric sense, but as a queer, crossdressed embodiment of desire’s excess. He/She/It haunts the landscape without words, expressing craving, estrangement, and silent ecstasy through gestures and stares.
Music direction merges ambient drone, deconstructed gamelan, reversed breathing, and raw silence. Scoring was done instinctively — no BPM, no key, no tempo. Just pulses of longing, arranged like open wounds.
“Love has no form. It’s like a withdrawal that never ends. It never resolves. You don’t watch this to understand — you watch to go numb.”
