Promo video for Demonic Possession, the debut demo tape by black/death metal act Nekrovomit. Fused with sinister ambient textures and anime-horror-inspired visual animation, the release video drags you into the band’s sonic slaughterhouse. Think: Junji Ito trapped in a cassette tape from 1991.

Role

I created the entire motion animation and sound engineering for the promo video — combining cut-out horror sequences, glitch/scanline overlays, VHS rot, and atmospheric layering. Sound-wise, I mixed and mastered transitions, added FX (detuned bells, reversed screaming), and synced it to key moments in the track “Faces of Death”.

Style & Approach

The visual style was inspired by anime horror (Junji Ito, Devilman Crybaby), mixed with grainy monochrome noir. The animation is deliberately janky, haunted, and unsettling. Typography drips like blood, background flickers simulate old projector reels, and character shots appear like cursed etchings. It’s not pretty. It’s cursed.

Sound & Audio Design

  • Layered ambient horror loops with reversed breath samples
  • Added analog distortion FX for DIY black metal aesthetic
  • Synced demonic laughter, tape hiss, bell gongs, and rumbling drones to visual impact points
  • Final audio mix enhanced to feel raw, evil, and lo-fi—true to Nekrovomit’s old-school sound

Tools & Workflow

  • Animation: After Effects + frame-by-frame cut-out technique
  • Sound Design: FL Studio + Audition + analog FX emulation
  • Visual FX: Glitch overlays, scanline emulators, and 35mm rot texture packs
  • Final deliverable: 60s teaser video + looping square crop for IG release
