Kelelep

A Fevered Descent Into the Unknowable

2022 — Dieng, Wonosobo, Indonesia.

Kelelep portrays learning not as acquisition, but as surrender — not as answers, but as hallucinations. Through the gaze of a nameless child, the film dives into the chaos of unspeakable knowledge: spoons bend, dolls stare, water boils without flame. Meaning dissolves. What remains is the current — dragging us under.

Role

As editor, I shaped the film’s rhythm and dream-logic flow. This wasn’t about cutting for clarity — it was about letting the scene breathe confusion. Using intuitive montage and instinctual pacing, I built transitions that disorient, lull, and jolt — like being dragged underwater by something invisible.

Artistic Direction & Editing Style

The edit embraces raw, subconscious rhythm — with abrupt shifts, lingering silences, and montage based on visual metaphor rather than plot. Influenced by Stan Brakhage and Van Gogh’s mantra of expressive instinct, every cut is a gasp, not a guideline.

Sound & Texture

The editing synced loosely with sonic fragments: reversed lullabies, industrial drones, and muffled whispers. The soundtrack wasn’t scored — it leaked, like water through cracked tiles. I treated silence as a scream held underwater.

Tools & Process

  • Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro with no script, no timecode structure — only moodboards and dream-maps
  • Color timing and cut decisions were based on sensation, not sequence
  • No AI, no automation
  • Pure, dumb, beautiful human feeling.

“Editing this film wasn’t about arranging a storyline. It was about diving into someone else’s dream and learning to swim with blind eyes.”
